Challenge yourself and be rewarded with amazing views

Via Ferrata translates to ‘iron path’ – it is a climbing route that uses a series of steel cables, rungs and ladders to allow climbers to safely traverse otherwise dangerous terrain. Climbers use a harness and clips (via ferrata lanyard/set) and remain attached to the cable at all times.

Although no previous experience is required, you do need to be comfortable with heights and ready for a challenging and invigorating experience. Participants will be rewarded with incredible views of the mountains, Omiš, the coastline and the Cetina river.

To start the climb follow the road along the Cetina River, just past the tunnel is a public parking lot, look to your right towards the large rocks and you should see the word ‘ferrata’ painted in red on a rock. At this point you should make your way up among the rocks until you find a small trail to follow.

Continue to look for “ferrata” signs and make a left straight up at the large rocks and climb steeply until you come to the sign “Via Ferrata – Mandatory use of climbing equipment”. Now is the time to put on your harness and helmet and hook both of the carabiners from your lanyard to the cable to start the climb.

After a few meters, you will come to the first fixed cable loop; unclip one carabiner and clip it back onto the cable on the other side of the loop, then repeat the action with the second carabiner. During the climb, you will find iron ladders to facilitate your climb in some tricky areas. When you find a flat spot, feel free to enjoy the magnificent view and take some photos.

After about one hour and twenty minutes, you will arrive at the end of the cable and the route will start to flatten out. After a few hundred meters, you will have arrived at the entrance to the fortress complex situated 260 meters above the sea level. Enjoy the scenery before you head down the ‘easy route’ on the other side of the hill, leading you back to Omiš.
